Bernadette: The Musical

For the North American tour of Bernadette: The Musical, Studio Artefact was commissioned to recreate the sacred Grotto of Massabielle as a stunning centerpiece on stage. The creative challenge: design a monumental 20 x 28‑foot rock formation that felt authentic, immersive, and yet remained lightweight and transportable for a touring production.

Our team combined cutting‑edge technology and artisanal craftsmanship to meet this vision. Starting with a detailed 3D scan of the real grotto, we produced a scale model refined by hand to capture its organic texture and depth. Large‑scale 3D printing—executed in‑house using one of the largest artistic printers in North America—enabled precise panel fabrication, while manual sculpting and patina work brought the illusion of stone to life under stage lighting.
